The Duke and the Dauphin free essay sample
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, two conmen called the duke and the dauphin (or the king) constantly cause trouble for Huck and Jim. Though many say these two characters weaken the overall plot, they are actually quite important factor in the plot of the story and help move things along. When Huck and Jim first meet the duke and the king, they introduce themselves as an impoverished duke of England and the long lost son of King Louis XVI of France. Of course Huck is smart enough to realize the men were con artists and didnââ¬â¢t believe their silly lies. This is yet another example of Huckââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"street smartsâ⬠, for if someone like Tom Sawyer had met them he would have easily believed the two because it would have been something like the stories he was so fond of. As the group of four travels down the Mississippi River, they come across the funeral of a wealthy man by the name of Richard Wilks. We will write a custom essay sample on The Duke and the Dauphin or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In his will, Wilks left his small fortune to his daughter and two English brothers who were rumored not to arrive. Of course with the real brothers most likely not stopping by and loads of money sitting around, the duke and the dauphin jump on the opportunity and plan their next scheme. Almost anyone would agree that their latest plan was extremely low, even for two con artists. Huck is extremely disgusted with their scam saying ââ¬Å"It was enough to make a body ashamed of the human raceâ⬠(Twain 159). If the duke and the dauphin been a part of the plot, this scam wouldnââ¬â¢t have happened and as a result the audience wouldnââ¬â¢t see how empathetic and compassionate Huck really is. Through the intensity and seriousness of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a bit of the comic relief is needed and the duke and the king are the perfect pair. Though they may seem to play a pointless part in the book, the conmen are actually important to the plot by giving Huck and Jim a reason for moving from place to place and ultimately to their final destination, but more importantly for bringing out certain characteristics in Huck that the audience may not have seen without the duke and the dauphin.

Sample of Persuasive Essay About American Working Environments
Sample of Persuasive Essay About American Working EnvironmentsIn this sample of persuasive essay, I am going to help you learn some basic ideas about the American working environment. What is it that you might say about the working environment in this country? Let me start by pointing out that, when we talk about Americans, the working environment is probably one of the first things that comes to mind. We are a nation that does a lot of manufacturing and the American working environment is probably as dirty or more dirty than any other nation on the planet. That doesn't mean Americans work all that hard, though. You may have noticed that so many Americans work more hours in a given week than any other people in the world. The world has only managed to keep about twelve hours of sleep per night for years. Since so many Americans work during the daytime, they generally wake up tired, sometimes at five in the morning.Of course, that has been a problem for some Americans for a long time. During the Vietnam War, when the US was involved in many wars, many Americans woke up sick with symptoms like heart attacks and flu that could not be cured because the doctors didn't know what to do. Because of this, many Americans are suffering from sleep deprivation. Many American's think that they can't get enough sleep and therefore, never feel refreshed the next day. This might be part of the reason that you need to write a persuasive essay about American's working environments. There are several reasons why you might be weary at the end of a shift or day. You might have some suspicions about the working environment. It could be an issue that you are afraid to discuss. Here is my advice, do what you can to talk about it.However, you also need to recognize that there are many ways that you can handle working conditions in American's work places. You need to realize that the options available to you are limited. What I mean by this is that there are only so many remedies that you can employ to take care of the problems. For example, a company needs to offer more benefits to employees to improve their working conditions. This makes you feel better about your work situation and it makes the employer feel good about his or her company. Companies can negotiate more wages and better benefits packages. If an American worker is not happy with the working conditions, there are other options available to him or her. An American worker might have to quit. There are also more informal ways to try to address issues within the workplace. For example, you might want to consider going to a union representative and letting them know about your concerns. The ultimate solution to working conditions is to hire someone who knows how to effectively talk to American workers. They are going to want to find an expert who can help them and make them feel better about their working conditions. A highly effective professional could help you find a way to improve working conditions. It ma y be time to talk to a professional about how to talk to American workers about their working conditions.

The Amish Essay
The Amish Essay The Amish Essay The Amish Jamila Davis Introductory t Anthropology 101 Justine Lemos November 11, 2012 The Amish It hasnââ¬â¢t been agreed unanimously where the Amish community is categorized in Christianity. However, most Amish consider themselves Anabaptist while some people view them as conservative Protestants. J Gordon Maelton, categories The Amish as part of European Free-Church Family, together with Brethren Quakers, Mennonites and other denominations. It is in the above understanding thatthis paper will discuss the origin, beliefs, and practices of The Amish. Background In the 16th century, Martin Luther, John Calvin and Ulrich Zwingli separated from the Roman Catholic Church in Europe in what was termed as a protestant reformation. They promoted the concept of salvation through the grace of God, freedom of belief, removal of priests or any intermediary with God, integration with the church and state and absolute reliance on the Bible. Some religious reformers advocated for believers freedom to form free churches which were different from the organized state churches at the time. They also secluded themselves from secular activities including the state and formed autonomous religious groups that were similar to early Christian congregations. A Swiss Christian group led by FexixManz and Conrad Grebel recommended changes to the state protestant church but were rejected by the church head and Zurich City Council. The first Swiss Brethren Congregation was formed in Switzerland in 1525 CE and membership in to the believerââ¬â¢s church was through baptism. This was met with resistance by the Swiss state church and was considered a crime that saw many members go into exile and others executed by burning at the stake or by drowning. The acts by this congregation were regarded as unorthodox by the Roman Catholic Church but toleration of religion came later in Europe. The Brethren believed in the baptism of adults only which was in contrast with the normal practices at the time where baptism was for infants and new born. This saw the group nicknamed Anabaptist that means re-baptizer. The Anabaptists encouraged loose association of adults and self-governance of the church. They carried out their church services in homes rather than church buildings. In 1527 The Anabaptist leaders met at the Swiss German border in secret and developed a declaration of ââ¬Å"Brotherly Unionâ⬠now known as "Schleitheim Articles" that comprises of seven principles that are guidelines to the Brethrenââ¬â¢s. They stipulated that: baptism be done after repentance and confession of faith in adult hood, members who misbehave be warned twice in private and the third time publicly infront of the congregation, only those baptized in adulthood to attend to the lords supper, seclusion from evil and violence in the world, leaders be of good character and be called shepherds, members not to hold public office or engage in civic affairs, and members were not to take oaths as their word was sufficient (Hostetler 1993). These principles are being used to date by the Swiss brethren and Amish to date. In 1534, some radicals in the movement who expected the world to end tried to create by force a theocracy in Munster, Germany. Genocide programs were organized by protestant groups under Luther and Calvin, the Roman Catholic Church and the Government. Hunters were hired in some city states to arrest the Anabaptist believers (Nolt S. 1992). Despite these persecutions their numbers still grew and they became a loosely organized Bible-oriented church (Melton J. 1991). In 1536, Memo Simons, a Dutch, left the Roman Catholic priesthood, after losing touch with their concentration of the Gospel message, forming the Mennonites. He became a leader of the Anabaptist movement in Holland bringing unification of the various diverse groups and based on the "Schleitheim Articles". In 1577, a religious tolerance policy was introduced in the country that provided freedom to practice religion

COMMUNICATION IN BUSINESS - case study format Essay
COMMUNICATION IN BUSINESS - case study format - Essay Example The perceptions about time, the power of analysis and integration etc can also be different in different cultures. Political, economical, social and technological parameters can affect the business management process. These parameters are different across diverse cultures. Some countries may have democratic administrations whereas some other countries may have autocratic administrations. Moreover, economic growth, religions and the development of technology etc need not be the same in different countries. Business management styles need to be adjusted or fine tuned based on these parameters in order to manage a business successfully across cultures. Terms of Reference ââ¬Å"In global firms, the effective management of cultural diversity which was once a concept, became imperative for the firms survival nowâ⬠(Adler & Gunderson, 2007, p.128). I am working as a management consultant and Microsoft has recently approached me to prepare a management report for them in doing business in India. They specifically asked me to give more emphasize to the management challenges Microsoft may face in India. Microsoft discards the idea of a joint venture in India and they preferred making an independent unit in India. They are aware of the fact that because of the above decision, they have to do everything from A to Z in order to setup a business unit in India. So, they asked me to study the probable management issues they may face in India related to culture. This paper is written as a report to Microsoft about the possible management issues Microsoft may face in their Indian operations. Overview of the situation America and India are some of the largest democratic countries in the world even though, they differ heavily in many other aspects. Even though democracy is prevailing in both of the countries, the functioning of the political systems is entirely different. Even though both the countries are secular democratic, Christians dominate the American population where as Hindus dominate the Indian population. ââ¬Å"India is an enormously hierarchical society (arguably the most hierarchical in the world) and this, obviously, has an impact on management styleâ⬠(Indian Management Style, n.d) Most of the Indian organizations consist of people from different parts of the country and the management should address the cultural diversity aspects all the time. India consists of 28 states and 6 union territories; most of them are extremely diverse as far as culture and language are concerned. Because of the influence of left parties, the influence of trade unionism in India is more than that in America. Left trade unions can create problems to Microsoft, because of their declared stands against the capitalist countries and monopolies. However, considering the huge growth potentials of India Microsoft can neglect these challenges. At the same time, Microsoft needs to spend more time on learning about the diverse Indian culture in order to manage thei r business successfully in India. ââ¬Å"Management practices are always culturally bondedâ⬠(Guidham, 2002, p.52). Analysis based on Trompenaars and Hampden-Turner cultural model The major elements of Trompenaars and Hampden-Turner cultural model of management of international business are; Universalism vs. Particularism, Analyzing vs. Integrating, Individualism vs. Communitarianism, Inner-directed vs.

Teenage Humor :: essays research papers
à à à à à Teenage humour is unlike adult humour. Teenagers laugh at ââ¬Å"Toiletâ⬠humour while adults laugh at ââ¬Å"Civilizedâ⬠humour. Therefore considering that teenagers laugh at the opposite of what adults do, we need to define the reasons why teenage and adult humour is so different. à à à à à I believe that teenage humour is sex oriented. I took a survey of ten teenagers to see what they believed was humorous. Trisha Lindsay believes that embarrassing moments are hilarious. Dustin Lockhart, Nadia Korfitsen, David Webster, Rick Fawcus, Kristi Webster, and myself believe that sex or sexual suggestions are humorous. Renita Manj and Ashlee Green believe that people who act idiotically or hurt themselves on a regular basis are hilarious. I believe that from this survey I have proved to you that most teenagers believe that sexual suggestions are the most funny in our generation. à à à à à The television programs that most teenagers watch are The Simpsonââ¬â¢s, Friends, and That 70ââ¬â¢s show. The Simpsonââ¬â¢s is a program that is aired on Fox and it is a cartoon. The Simpsonââ¬â¢s is about a middle-aged man named Homer. He is a dumb-founded idiot that works at a nuclear power plant. We laugh at him because he makes so many mistakes even if they are the easiest task. Bart is a ten year old kid who gets into trouble more then once a day. He gets into trouble at school and even when he is walking down the street to go home. He is like an average ten year old kid that likes to get into mischief. Bart is just a trouble maker that doesnââ¬Ët know when to behave himself. His sister Lisa is a straight ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠student that is on the Honour Roll, and plays the saxophone in the school Band. Every little girl would like to be Lisa because she is very mature for an eight year old. Marge is the mother of both Bart and Lisa. She is a homem aker and isnââ¬â¢t very funny. Bart and Homer are the prime targets for funniness in this series. à à à à à That 70ââ¬â¢s show is the second example of a television show that teenagers find amusing. Adults find this amusing as well because they can relate to the subject. This show is about the 70ââ¬â¢s obviously. It is how our parents use to be. I believe this is one reason why teenagers find this television show amusing. The cast of the 70ââ¬â¢s show involves Kitty and Red who are Ericââ¬â¢s parents.
